Most of my family lives in Ventura, CA, so I’ve often considered moving there after college. To get a better understanding of the job market, I analyzed data from several U.S. federal agencies, focusing on:
     Employment concentration (location quotients)
     Average annual income
Number of people employed in different professions in the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura metropolitan area.
One interesting insight: Marriage and family therapists are highly concentrated in the region. With 48% of the population being Hispanic or Latino, and cultural values emphasizing marriage and family, it makes sense that there’s strong demand for these professionals. Social expectations and community/cultural "norms" likely contribute to this trend.
This research has given me a clearer picture of what life and work in Ventura might look like and has made me even more curious about the opportunities and lifestyle there.
